Fundamentals

Fundamentals jiu-jitsu class is a great way for beginners to learn the basics of jiujitsu and develop a strong foundation of skills and techniques. These classes can be challenging but also incredibly rewarding, and can help students build the confidence and knowledge they need to progress to more advanced levels of training.

This class is taught at a slower pace than more advanced classes. With a focus on mastering the basics before moving on to more complex techniques. The instructor provides more detailed instruction and feedback. This produces a solid understanding of the fundamental principles of jiu-jitsu, such as leverage, timing, and positioning.

We begin class with some light calisthenics and stretching. Following our warm-up we then begin drilling techniques. These drills—when done over and over—help form muscle memory and help our students retain technique after our drilling is completed. Then we begin to spar (or "roll"). Rolling is when students are able to put their techniques to the test with training partners who can resist and counter just as they would in an actual fight, providing valuable real-world experience should the technique ever be applied in an actual fight.
